Helias, abbot of Kirkstall, c. 1203

‘A man of energy, fully practised in dealing with outside affairs.’ (1)

Helias, a former monk of Roche, was an astute administrator and negotiator, who successfully represented the abbey in external affairs. It was during his abbacy that the community regained possession of Micklethwaite grange.
