Conisbrough Court Roll 1605

Conisbrough: View of frankpledge with court baron of the noble John Carey, knight, Lord Hunsdon, etc., held there the 16th day of April in the third year of the reign of our lord James, by the grace of God king of England, France and Ireland, defender of the faith, etc. Of Scotland, 38th [year of reign]. More information... King of France. The claim to the throne of France was first made by Edward III in 1340. The only English king to hold the title de facto was the young Henry VI, who was crowned king of France in Paris in 1430 after Charles VII had been crowned at Reims the year before. The title continued to be used by English monarchs until dropped by George III in 1800, at the time of the Act of Union. Defender of the faith. Henry VIII was awarded the title by Pope Leo X in 1521. Although Henry subsequently broke from the Roman Catholic church, he retained the title, as have all subsequent English monarchs.
