And such as you shall finde in the sayd your Inquisitiō, either by their owne confession, or by any other meane, to bee diffamed, or otherwise infected with the spotte of such heresie or errour, you, throughe the sentence of excommunication, suspension, interdict, and priuation of their dignities, personages, offices, or other benefices of the churche, and fees, whiche they hold of any Churche, monastery and other Ecclesiasticall places, also of honours and secular dignities and degrees of sciences or other faculties, as also by other paynes and censures of the Churche, or by wayes and meanes what soeuer els shall seeme to you expedient, by takyng and imprisonnyng of their bodyes, and other corporall punishementes wherewith heretickes are punished, or are wōt and are commaunded by canonicall sanctions to bee vsed: & if they be clerkes, by degradation, do correct and punishe, & cause them to be corrected & punished with all diligence. Furthermore, þ^t you do rise vp stoutly & couragiously against such heretiques, and the goods as well of them, as of the lay men, accordyng to the canonicall sanctions made against heretiques, and their folowers, vnder the whiche we will and commaunde them and all their pertakers to be subiect. Who, if it so chaunce that they will not publikely and solemnely renounce & abiure their articles and errours, and take at your handes condigne penaunce, though it be to perpetuall, or tēporall punishment, according to your discretion, neyther wil be contented to put in sufficiēt suertie that they will not hereafter holde nor nourishe these errours and heresies, neither will induce other by worde or deede, priuelye or apertly, directlye or indirectly, or by any other maner of colour, to beleue the same: that then you shal procede against them, accordyng to the qualitie of their errours & demerites, yea and if you see it so expedient, as against heretiques, and as infected wyth heresie, by our authoritie, according to the canonicall sanctions, summarily and simplely and plainly, sine strepitu & figura iudicij, & of office, all appellation or appellations whatsoeuer ceasyng: and that you punishe the same, accordyng to the sanctions and traditions canonicall, yea, if neede be, in leauyng and committyng them to the secular power: and agaynst such as be superiours or learned doctours, layeng the censures of ecclesiasticall excōmunication, all appellation set asyde, also inuocatyng, yf neede shal require, ayde of the secular arme: The constitution as well of our predecessor Pope Boniface 8. of blessed me-
