And thus much touchyng Methodius, of whose prophecies how much or how litle is to bee estemed, I leaue it indifferent vnto the reader. For me it shall suffice simply to haue recited his woordes, as I finde them in hys booke conteyned: notyng this by the waye, that of this booke of Methodius, De nouissimis temporibus, neither Hierome in his Cataloge, nor Suidas, nor yet Auētinus in that place where hee entreateth purposely of such prophecies, maketh any mention.

Furthermore touchyng þ^e state & course of þ^e Churche, and of Antichrist, it foloweth in the sayd Sybille saying  

: Then shall iiij. wynged beastes MarginaliaBy these 4. beastes is ment the 4. Monarchies of the world, that is, the multitude of all the kingdomes of the gētiles, as is in the Apocal.rise vp in testimonie, they shall sound out with trūpets the name of the lābe, sowyng righteousnes, and the law irreprehensible. Against which law, the beast shall gaynstand, and the abhomination and frothe of the dragon. But a meruelous starre shall ryse, hauyng the image of the iiij. beastes, and shall be in a meruelous multitude, he shall bring light to the Greekes, and shall illustrate the world: The lake of the fisher shall bring the name of the lambe with power into the Citie of Eneas, vnto the ende of the world (or tyme.)Then in the Citie of Eneas, MarginaliaBy the Citie of Eneas is ment Rome.the starre ioyned, shall loose such as were bound of the deuill, and therof he shall reioyse and glorie, and glorious shall be his end. &c.

After this, Sybilla writing (as it semeth) of Antichrist, importeth these wordes  

: MarginaliaThe prophesies of Sybilla, of Antichrist.And it shall come to passe, that an horrible beast shall come out of the East, whose roryng shall be heard to Aphrike, to the people of Carthage, whiche hath vij. heades, and scepters innumerable, feete. 663. MarginaliaThe 663. feete do meane the yeares of hys reigne.He shall gaynstand the lambe, to blaspheme his Testament, encreasing the waters of the dragon. The kinges and princes of the world he shall burne in intolerable sweate, and they shall not diminishe his feete. MarginaliaHis feete, that is, the number of his reygne and tyme appoynted of the Lord.And then ij. starres like to the first starre, shall rise against the beast, and shall not preuaile, till the abhomination shall be come, and the will of the Lord shall be consummate. And againe speaking of þ^e same matter, he inferreth these wordes of the foresayd ij. starres aboue mentioned.   And toward the latter dayes ij. bright starres MarginaliaThese ii starres seme to meane Iohn Hus, and Hierome, who beyng put to death by the Pope, their doctrine rose again more strongly, then before.shall arise, raysing vp men lyeng dead in their sinnes, beyng like to the first starre, hauing the face of the iiij. beastes, whiche shall resiste the beast, and the waters of the Dragon, testifying (or preaching) the name and law of the lambe, the destruction of abhomination and iudgemēt, and shall diminishe his waters, but they shall be weakened in the bread of affliction, and they shall rise agayn in stronger force. &c.

speakyng of the latter iudgement to come, declareth how all the abhominations of sinnes shall come before the lambe: and that terrible fire shall fall from heauen, whiche shall consume all earthly thinges created vnto the toppe of heauen. &c.

And thus much out of Sybilla touchyng her prophesies of Christ & Antichrist, according as I found them alleadged of a certein catholike Romish writer, in his booke intituled, Onus ecclesiæ,

Philippe Melancthon in his preface vpon Bartholomæus Georgionitz Peregrinus,  

writyng of þ^e Origene and maners of the Turkes, alledgeth a certeine prophesie of Hiltenus, mentioned hereafter, whiche foresayd that the Turkes should beare rule in Italie, and in Germanie, an. 1600.

Now it remaineth, in cōclusion of these prophesies of the Turkes, some thyng to say of the Turkes owne prophesies, concernyng the enduryng, and endyng of theyr own kingdome, whose prophetical prognosticatiō, being taken out of their owne language, & their owne bookes, I thought here to insert, as I finde it alledged in þ^e booke of þ^e foresaid Bartholomæus Georgieniz, as foloweth.
