Ugden

John Bland defended himself against accusations of open disputation, stating that he was at Master Ugden's on the Saturday in question. Bland stated that Master Vaughan, Master Oxenden and Master Seth of Overland, as well as Master Ugden were witnesses to Bingham's words to Bland while he was at Master Ugden's. 1563, p. 1222, 1570, p. 1846, 1576, p. 1580, 1583, p. 1667.

Ulrich of Augsburg (St Ulrich)

(890 - 973) [Gams; Catholic Encyclopedia]

Swiss; son of Count Hucpald; bishop of Augsburg (923 - 973); general in defence of the city against Magyar attacks; Otto I granted him the right to mint coins. A letter purporting to be from Ulrich to Nicholas I was forged; it appeared c. 100 years later

Underwood

Servant to Henry Grey

Underwood was the servant of the Duke of Suffolk who betrayed him to his enemies (1570, p. 1579; 1576, pp. 1347-48; 1583, p. 1418). [NB: The story of Underwood's betraying the Duke is on 1563, p. 916, but Underwood is unnamed in this edition].

Urban I (St Urban)

St Cecilia sent for Urban to help her to convert the officers who had arrested her. 1570, p. 85; 1576, p. 58; 1583, p. 58.

Later historians claimed that Urban I had been martyred under Severus Alexander. He converted pagans to Christianity. 1570, p. 84; 1576, p. 58; 1583, p. 58.

Legendary virgin martyr with 11 virgin companions from Cologne; traditionally of British birth; the 11 virgins came to be expanded to 11,000
