Thomas Watson
Examined what words he hath heard Ralph Langton utter touching his going to church deposeth and saith that the same Ralph Langton (being in the house of Robert Smith goldsmith) said that he would never go to church for any man’s pleasure in Chester and took thereupon bread into his hands and swore by that bread that he would not go to church for any man and thereupon did eat the same bread to this examinate’s remembrance by which he so swore the time (he saith) was about Christmas last in company of this examinate and one Pinfall of London and others whose names this examinate doth not remember and saith that this examinate did thereby conceive that the same Langton would not be compelled to go to church.
