Sworn and examined deposeth and saith that upon Sunday night last or thereabouts he this examinate did send his maid unto Mr Thropp’s tavern for a pint of muscadine and sent with her to pay for the same 6d for that he this examinate had credibly heard before that time that Mr Mayor had assized it after that rate, and saith that his maid brought him the pint of muscadine and the 6d again for that it was refused either by Mrs Thropp or some of her servants… as she told him because it was not 7d, and this examinate saith that upon the Monday next afternoon last past, he this examinate meeting with Mrs Thropp did offer 9d unto her and wished her to please herself, for the pint of muscadine, and she then gave this examinate 2d and took 7d, and thereupon this examinate told her he was credibly informed that Mr Mayor had assized their muscadine for 12d the quart and she answered it was a lie and more saith not.
Sworn and examined deposeth and saith that this morning last past he this examinate was sent by said gentleman in his Master's house to fetch a pint of muscadine at Mr Thropp’s tavern and Mrs Thropp did then deliver a pint of muscadine unto him and this examinate offered her 6d for the same and she refused it and said she would not take under 7d for the same, and this examinate then said that he had heard that Mr Mayor had assized the same at 7d the quart, and she answered that Mr Mayor had nothing to do to assize her wine, and thereupon this examinate promised her to pay her a penny more at his next coming, otherwise he must not have had the muscadine, and this examinate saith further that within a while after he being sent thither upon the like occasion for a pint [of] muscadine and delivered her 2d and bade her please herself, and she gave him the 2d again, and took 8d which was 1d for the other pint more and 7d for that pint… and more saith not.
