Thomas Hughes
Saith he went from his father’s house on Wednesday last… and from thence on Friday he went to… Peter Jones to know whether he had any employment for him he being a clerk by profession and saith that yesternight he came to Chester and went to Richard Bithell’s cellar betwixt five and six of the clock and called for bread and butter and standing by the fireside he held his hat before his face to save himself from the heat thereof and he saith this is the reason why the Constables Richard Bithell and Edward Harryed did suspect him and saith that Mr Birkhead and his man acknowledged before the said Constables that they knew him and that it was his use to hold his hat as aforesaid and more saith not.
