Maketh oath that upon the second of January about one of the clock in the night this deponent being then upon the watch, was desired by Benjamin Wilcock’s man to come forthwith to the Sign of the Angel in Bridge Street of this City to apprehend one Edward Starkey beerbrewer his man, who as this deponent hath since heard is called by the name of John Barrow for that he had assaulted dangerously hurt and wounded one John Annion son of Thomas Annion blacksmith whereupon this deponent went down to the cellar under the sign of the Angel aforesaid and in the street there this deponent found the said John Barrow assaulting the said John Annion having him under him in the street whereupon this deponent did take the said John Barrow from the said John Annion and the said John Annion was so ill beaten and hurt that he could neither stay and go nor speak.
Upon his oath deposeth and saith that at the time in [the] first deposition mentioned he this deponent was at the cellar under the Sign of the Angel in the Bridge Street where were present John Annion and John Barrow and that upon some difference between the said Annion and this deponent upon playing at cards the said John Annion called this deponent’s master Ben Wilcock a fool whereupon after some words passed between them the said John Annion struck this deponent upon the face and thereupon the said John Barrow endeavouring to hinder the said John Annion from assaulting this deponent, the said John Annion did make an assault upon the said John Barrow and him would have beaten and evilly entreated if the said John Barrow had not defended himself against the said John Annion but the said John Barrow threw the said Annion down in the Street and having the said Annion under him did strike and beat the said John Annion, whereby he was very ill hurt and bruised and unable either to stand or speak.
