Examined saith and confesseth he did speak these words that he did believe there would not be quietness in England till there was a toleration, but denieth that to his knowledge he did mention either the king or crown.
Informeth upon oath that about two months ago he was in company with a person who calls himself by the name of Lewis Mills in the chamber of Mr William Otty in this City where was then present the said Mr Otty and George Preston and did then hear the said Mills speak these words following (to wit) that he was confident the crown should never be settled in peace and quietness upon the King’s head till he granted a toleration in religion, or words to this effect.
Deposeth upon oath and saith that about two months ago he was in company with a person who calls himself by the name of Lewis Mills in the chamber of Mr William Otty where was then present the said Mr Otty and the above named Francis Wood and did then hear the said Mills speak and utter these words following (vizt) that there would never be peace and quietness till there was a toleration, and that the King’s crown would never be settled upon his head in peace and quietness till there was a toleration; which this deponent apprehended to be spoken of a toleration in religion.
