Sworn and examined deposeth and saith in all things as the former examinate hath said and further saith that the said Edmund Mathew said unto this examinate’s said Master that he was a Justice of the Peace in the City but that he was now there and that he cared not for this examinate’s said Master but said he would break and burn all his tubs… in the said Abbey Court.
Sworn and examined deposeth and saith that this day about eleven of the clock this examinate going with his Master’s team into the Abbey Gate towards Mr John Ratcliffe’s to have laden some beer, that the wife of Edmund Mathew keeper of the same gate told this examinate that he had nothing to do to come that way with his team and that he would have blame for the same, this examinate answering her that if he had offended he was sorry for it and would not offend again or to the like effect that thereupon there came forth of the Lodge the said Edmund Mathew who struck this examinate and drew blood upon him… And saith that this examinate offering no violence but making away from him he the said Edmund Mathew pursued him and called for help to have apprehended this examinate threatening to commit him to the Porter’s Lodge and saith that thereupon the said Edmund Mathew took this examinate’s Master’s cart rope out of the way and keepeth it still.

Sworn and examined deposeth and saith that upon Friday last this examinate saw the said John Whitehead in a cart in the Abbey Court lading of a barrel and beer and that thereupon the said Edmund Mathew came hastily towards him swearing he would make him for carrying any beer that way and saith that thereupon the said Whitehead did leap out of the cart and running away the said Edmund Mathew followed him… And saith that the said Edmund Mathew coming away from him came chasing and swearing that Mr Ratcliffe was an Alderman on the other side of the Channel but was no Alderman there and said he cared not for him… And being examined whether he heard the said Mathew say he cared not for Mr Ratcliffe a turd saith he does not remember.
