She was just come home [from?] [illegible] a woman in bed sheets walked out to see for her son. Godfrey Burman hearing he was called out upon the occasion of a quarrel for fear he should be abused by reason she heard he had often times been threatened by lewd people and when she had found him with Godfrey her son and she this informant were going at home between at the hour of between 12 and 1 of the clock this morning he heard people talking which caused Godfrey Burman being constable to advise the people to depart and go home and coming up out of the cellar she saw one Harper and his wife abusing one Wilson that was the constable's assistant which caused this informant to call her son to come to Wilson's assistance and did so and stepping between Haper and Wilson, Harper swore by his maker and took Burman by the collar, saying You shall go along with me for you are [or] a prison[er] and Cady ordered me to take you up and carry you to the gaol or words to that effect, and accordingly dragged him along and dashed against the stones which caused a great effusion of blood and if one King and Watton had not come to his assistance he might have been in great danger of his life, furthe[r] all were charged in the King's name to assist him yet none would but the aforesaid Randall and Watton, the rest encouraging Harper to abuse the said Godfrey Burman, and did rescue the prisoner and carry him to a house and shut up the doors and opened the windows and clapped hands at the constable and those that were his assistants and bade defiance to them.
