Informeth upon oath that Anne the wife of Adam Laithwaite hath long been counted a lewd woman, and that she hath sent for suspected light women to come to her house when men have been there drinking and namely for one Hollingworth's daughter out of Hindley about 2 or 3 years since (as he remembreth) also about a fortnight since she sent her daughter to this deponent's house for Alice Hope to come to her the said Laithwaite's house when Richard Urmston was drinking there: and when Alice Hope desired the messenger to excuse her and say she was not at home: the said messenger replied it will not serve for you must come with me or I shall be sent again whereupon Alice Hope went with her.
Informeth that her husband William Pemberton aforesaid is almost undone by the said Anne Laithwaite; and that the said Anne did allure her husband from her, and kept him company day and night which when this informer perceived, she desired the said Anne to refrain her husband's company, who answered that she would not, but if he did not come she would fetch him and send for him, and hath accordingly done so and sometimes kept him a whole day and night together, and when the said informer hath sent her children to the said Laithwaite's house to fetch home her husband, she hath given them very foul words, and would to the informer's husband If I were you I would lay them in the fire and burn them: and when this informer hath gone herself to call her said husband home, the said Anne Laithwaite hath counselled him to strike her.
Sworn saith that about Michaelmas was three years she looked in at the said Anne Laithwaite's house, and the said Anne and her daughter were in bed together, and the said William Pemberton was then in his shirt and he stripped it off and went stark naked into the bed between the said women, and the daughter said there was no room, whereto he answered, is there not room now as well as at other times.
Sworn say that Anne the wife of Adam Laithwaite is a woman of very lewd name and is reported to have undone William Pemberton by her allurements.
