About a quarter of a year ago Joseph Baxter of the parish of St Peter Parmentergate in the city of Norwich, worsted weaver, came to this examinant at her house in All Hallows and there told her she should pretend herself with child by Mr John Stewkeley clerk and he the said Baxter would charge Mr Stewkeley with the fact and thereby extort what money he could from Mr Stewkeley, and that she this examinant should have a share thereof. And thereupon soon after Baxter (as he afterwards informed her) charged Mr Stewkeley with getting this examinant with child. And that about a week after that Mr Stewkeley, this informant and Baxter met at the Red House of Lakenham and Baxter and this informant persisted in the charge against Mr Stewkeley who then paid down twenty shillings to this informant. But this informant saith that the charge upon Mr Stewkeley was wholly false and that she was not then with child or had Mr Stewkeley ever any carnal knowledge of this informant or anything to do with her in that nature nor was ever in company with Mr Stewkeley before the aforesaid meeting at the Red House, and that this informant being touched in conscience with the said false accusation of Mr Stewkeley desired Baxter several times to desist from the charge and that he should not trouble Mr Stewkeley any more.
