Upon Sunday in the afternoon in harvest last past before this his examination, this deponent chanced to be at the house of one Widow Francis [in] Earl Soham who keepeth an alehouse And then and there this deponent... did hear William Crane speak these words... that... Elizabeth Lacey did play the whore [in an] alder carr and was carried to London in a cart, then being present and hearing [of]... Robert Harvey, Hary Stephanson [and] Miller, this deponent and others.
This deponent being at the house of one Widow Francis of Earl Soham in harvest last past upon a Sunday in the afternoon there and then hear William Crane speak these words... that she the said Elizabeth Lacey played the whore in an alder carr and was carried to London in a cart, then being present and hearing the said words one Harry Stephanson, William Myller, Roger Austen and this deponent and others whose names he remembereth not.
If the said Roger Austen and Robert Harvey have deposeth as is mentioned as in this position additional they have not done honestly as this jurate judgeth for he saith that he this jurate was present with William Abbett, George Williams, William Miller, Henry Stevinson, Robert Harvey and others at the Widow Fraunces her house situate in Earl Soham in harvest last past before this his examination or thereabout) as he remembreth where and when the said William Crane spake certain words... saying if it be true that is reported she was ridden in an alder carr at Hoxne… Roger Austen is little accounted of for any credit where he dwelleth of this jurate’s own knowledge… Thomas [Hoydey?] about a year or more [illegible] servant unto Peter Tower who is natural brother to Elizabeth Laceye… One he did see Edmund Elverd viz. after Christmas last past whipped at a cart's tail in the town of Earl Soham at the commandment of the justice for "pyken and michinge".
