The arlate George Stevenson was at the time of his examination swearing... and now is a man of loose conversation a familiar and frequented of alehouses and tippling houses and of a riotous life... The said George Stevenson hath been overtaken with drink and this deponent hath seen the said Stevenson stagger in going and stammer in speaking by reason of excess of drinking.
George Stevenson is a usual familiar and frequenter of alehouses and saith he will be overtaken with drink and by reason of his excess in drinking he hath seen him stagger in going and stammer in his speech and hath often time disguised himself and taken upon him the person of a fool or jester carrying in his hands a bauble at May games or other times to move people to laugh at his foolery.
George Stevenson is given to company keeping and by reason of those courses he hath consumed most of his means... He this deponent hath been a parishioner of Norton these twenty-two years and saith he knew the arlate George Stevenson as curate.
He hath been in company with other honest men in drinking but never saw him drunk.
