That upon a Sunday after Christmas last was two years 1660 and as he believeth upon the day arlate the arlate Mr Richard Cubitt clerk being to administer the holy sacrament of the Lord's Supper in the parish church of Swanton Abbott arlate, after service ended the said Mr Cubitt speaking to the parishioners then present desired them that were prepared to receive (amongst whom the arlate John Ling was present) would drew near, and the rest that intended not to receive to depart in peace, and said the God of peace be with you; whereupon divers that intended not to receive went out of the church whereof the said John Ling was one, and stood in the churchyard at porch door, to whom the said Mr Cubitt sent the parish clerk Stephen King to desire the said Ling and the rest to depart in peace if he and the rest intended not to receive the sacraments, which the said King did, whereunto the said John King in a jarring and scorning manner said to the said King, bid him (meaning as he conceived the said Mr Cubitt) save a cup of wine to drink a health with me (meaning as this deponent likewise conceived of the communion wine commanded for the Holy Sacrament), which words were uttered in the manner aforesaid... in the presence and hearing of this deponent, Robert Parding, Stephen King... and others... That the arlate John Ling upon diverse and sundry Sundays in the years arlate absented himself from his parish church of Swanton Abbott arlate in the time of divine service... and neglect[ed] the receiving of the Holy Communion in the said parish church.
