That you the said John Lumley since you came to read prayers at Pilling have lived very disorderly especially in company keeping and drinking, and in your drink hath given base and scandalous words against good and reverend men of the clergy of this diocese of Chester, and have called them or some of them fools, asses, ninny hammers, devils, rascals, rogues, and stammering salmon, to the great disgrace of your profession and calling, and the evil example of others. And also you have and do usually drink, sit, table, converse, and keep company with recusants and persons excommunicate, and especially with one Thomas Dalton being a convict and excommunicate recusant, and you did report boastingly that you can out drink him, and that he but sit with you, you can make him as drunk as an ape: and then you can read when he cannot turn over a leaf or words to this effect.
