'Vizt the said Robert Corker the party promoted in this suit, in the month of February in this present year of our Lord God 1636 or thereabouts did come into the Court of Exchequer aft Chester, and then and there delivered by himself or his Attorney for an Attachment against Thomas Slade the party promovent in this suit; and the said Thomas Slade his Attorney then and there did speak on behalf of Thomas Slade, and said he meaning Thomas Slade was an honest man... [A]fter which conference the said Attorney Robert Corker did speak of Thomas Slade in a defamatory manner, and said he (meaning and signifying Thomas Slade...) is a whore and drunken fellow and troubles the parish wherein he lives with his bastard'.
