Mr Sherwood... was and is accounted a minister in holy orders and parson of Earsham and so accounted and taken... Upon a day happening in one of the months articulate Anno Domini 1634, Mr Sherwood and Thomas Berrie being at this deponent's house in Bungay and some difference happening between them, Berrie in a disgraceful manner speaking to Mr Sherwood willed him to leave his base dishonest course of life, and to learn of him the said Berrie and live honestly, and said that he hoped that God would rid the town of him the said Sherwood, and that if God would not he hoped the devil would. Which words were spoken ... in the presence and hearing of this deponent and Alice his wife and Christopher Vinyard his contest... The words by him predeposed of were spoken in this deponent's house being an ale inn but at what time Berrie came to this respondent about business but what occasion Mr Sherwood had there more than to dine he knoweth not... Mr Sherwood cometh often to this respondent's house where sometimes he have played at tables for beer... Mr Sherwood did utter many such like speeches to Berry... but whether before Berrie spake the words aforesaid or after he knoweth not... After the words aforesaid were uttered Mr Sherwood told Berrie that for all the money he had spent with Mr Gooch he had 40li. left to spend with the said Mr Berrie before he would be abused and that he would make the said Berry stand in a white cloth... After the words aforesaid were uttered, Mr Sherwood did lay hold upon a pair of iron tongs and had not this respondent prevented him he believeth that therewithal he would have stricken Berrie.

In one of the months articulate Anno Domini 1634 Thomas Berrie being at this deponent's husband's house in Bungay and falling into disgraceful terms to and of Mr Sherwood amongst the rest speaking to Mr Sherwood willed him to leave his base, dishonest course of life, and learn good manners of him the said Berrie and live honestly, and further said he hoped God would rid the town of him the said Mr Sherwood, but if God would not he hoped the Devil would. Which words were so spoken in the place aforesaid in the presence and hearing of this deponent, her husband and Christopher Vinyard... The falling out happened at this deponent's husband's house at what time Berry came to sell this deponent's husband cloth but what occasion Mr Sherwood had to be there present she know not... Mr Sherwood cometh often to this respondent's house being an inn and playeth at tables for a cup of beer... Mr Sherwood being very much urged by Berry did take up a pair of tongs and would have struck him therewith had he not been prevented.

In January last past Anno Domini 1635 Thomas Berrie and Mr Sherwood being at the house of his precontest Joseph Estowe in Bungay and a difference happening between them, Berry speaking to Mr Sherwood in a disgraceful manner called him Mr Sherwood to leave his base and dishonest course of life and to learn good manners of him the said Berry, and desired God that he would rid the town of him the said Sherwood, or else that the Devil might. Which words were so spoken in the place aforesaid in the presence and hearing of this deponent, Joseph Estowe and Alice his wife his precontests... The words aforesaid were spoken in the place aforesaid being an inn where the parties were together drinking... Mr Sherwood doth often resort to the house aforesaid to drink a cup of beer... Mr Sherwood did uetter some of the words interrogate to Berry but not until Berrie first spake to him the words by him predeposed... At the speaking the words aforesaid Mr Sherwood did take hold one pair of iron tongs and lift them in his hand but to what intent he knoweth not.
