You Ellis Rycroft without any oaths ... as by law required, and without any license under seal ecclesiastical or other lawful authority, and without due approbations or election of the feoffees of the school of Hargrave and contrary to the desire of the inhabitants entered into the school of Hargrave and there taught boys in grammar and other reading and learning, and received salary and wage from the boys' parents or fees for the same, and this you have done for five years or months last past... Not only at the time when the produced marriage aforesaid was made, but at other time and times since you taught school at Hargrave, you have been and was much overtaken with excessive drinking as appeared by your stammering in the tongue, other excesses visible and discovered beside staggering and reeling, and vomiting and spewing in the school and upon your scholars there, to the great scandal of the profession or the ministry you have undertaken, and office of schoolmaster you have assumed... You lately by force broke into the school or chapel of Hargrave, or caused or procured some other or others through a window to break into the school or chapel, in a rude unwarrantable manner... You are and so have been for some time past, a great or usual swearer and blasphemer of the name of God, and a railer and evil speaker of and against your neighbours and others and for such [a] one have been and are commonly noted, accounted, reputed and taken to be... During the time of your officiating or being schoolmaster of Hargrave as beforesaid, you have been and were careless and unmindful of your scholars and neglected and absented yourself from the school at hours, days and times usual and convenient whereby many have been... prejudiced in the loss of their time; and have refused to teach some unless upon your own terms, contrary to the foundation, gift or right of the school, and by unfitting corrections and blows... affrighting them from the school; and by your bad carriage hereafter to be more particularly specified and proved, the number of scholars there, which heretofore was numerous and great when there was [a] diligent and deserving schoolmaster, there is now reduced into a very small number of five or seven, or not many more, far short of its form flourishing, to the great damage of parents and harm of their children.
