In the years and months articulate vizt all the months in the year 1616 and in the months of March, April and May Anno Domini 1617 Mr Neale was and is a parishioner of the parish of Homersfield and there kept house and family for all the said time, and was and is a grave, substantial man of honest life and conversation, and of sufficient age to receive the holy communion… Upon Easter Day last past, viz Anno Domini 1617, and after the sermon preached there by Mr Dey, Mr Neale did offer to tend himself (amongst the rest of the parishioners of Homersfield that were then and there assembled to receive the holy communion) to receive the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper and to that purpose did take his place amongst the parishioners and communicants and he saith that as soon as Mr Dey saw Mr Neale there he called him aside and told him the said Mr Neale that there was malice between him and Mr Neale and therefore he was not fitting to receive the holy communion, whereupon Mr Neale replied that he the said Mr Neale did bear no malice to any man, and told him that he came seriously to receive the same communion for the good of his own soul, whereupon Mr Neale went his way discontented as it seemed to this deponent for that Mr Dey would not admit him to receive the communion… Upon the said Easter Day 1617, after evening prayers ended in the parish church of Homersfield, Mr Dey charging Richard Cogswell with some words which he said the said Cogswell told him the said Mr Dey Mr Neale should speak of the said Mr Dey which he the said Cogswell then denying, Mr Dey said that he was a lying brazen face knave.
