That the arlate Greene was at the time of his production in this cause and before and since an inward and familiar friend to the arlate Wright and insomuch as by the friendship and means of the said Wright he being a chief constable and by no other lawful licence to this deponent’s knowledge the said Greene did keep an alehouse or tippling house within the parish of Great Ellingham two or three years together and saith that not long since… he the said Greene did beat and drive his wife out of his doors for that it was commonly reported that she did commit adultery with one Thomas Eldred… And further saith that the common voice fame and report now about within the parish of Ellingham aforesaid and other parishes adjoining [is] that the said Greene hath begotten one Alice Dow with child whereof she is not yet delivered.
That the arlate Greene hath been and is a familiar and near friend and acquaintance unto the arlate Wright insomuch as the said Wright as is commonly reported procured a licence for the said Greene to keep an alehouse or tippling house in Ellingham and saith that it is commonly voiced and reported within the parish of Great Ellingham and other parishes adjoining amongst persons of best credit that Thomas Eldred did incontintently commit adultery with the wife of the said Green and complaint thereof made unto Sir Philip Woodhouse… one of his majesty’s Justices and that the said Greene did for two or three days put away his wife.
