This deponent saith that he did know Mr Lawrence Ashaw... very well and did know him to be a gentleman well-affected beloved and liked in Flixton parish and in those days when the parish church of Flixton was covered with slate and great flooding about the same he was the only man that laboured to perform and cause the same to to be effected for this deponent saith he was a workman there... this deponent saith that he this deponent was a working [man] and did slate part of the said church of Flixton when the same was new made nor repaired and saith that he laid there at his work about one month and rather more during which time he this deponent did lay at the house of the said Lawrence and did eat and drink there and so did all the rest of the slaters and wrights that wrought there then.
