That about Easter last was twelvemonths the arlate Thomas Grime fell sick in which his sickness he always exceedingly used to vomit, and she saith that in the said time of his sickness this deponent being sister to the said Mr Grime and lying in his the said Mr Grime’s house in Foulsham came to visit him, where she had not stayed long but one of this deponent’s maidservants being likewise in the said house came in great haste to this deponent and told her that the Widow Crist being Mr Grime’s cook and servant in house would speak with her this deponent instantly… and thereupon this deponent went into another room where the said Widow Crist stayed… and then she this deponent asked the said Widow Crist what the matter was that she sent for this deponent so hastily and then… told this respondent that she was an exceeding fear that that wicked woman meaning and naming the arlate Mrs Grime had or would poison her Mr the said Mr Grime and prayed this deponent for Christ’s sake to have a care and look to the said Mr Grime, and then withal told this deponent how the arlate Bridget Grime had been often found with her and the rest of her fellow servants buy her some ratbane which she and they refusing to do she the said Bridget got a poor wench that came begging to the door for relief to fetch her some ratbane from a grocer’s shop in Foulsham and promised her a pot of beer for her labour.
That upon the tenth day of this instant month of October 1617 this deponent being at the house of one Thomas Scott situated in Twyford where the arlate Bridget Grime then lay being an alehouse, the said Bridget Grime asked this deponent if he were come out of the service of the arlate Mr Thomas Grime who then told this deponent if it were so she would entertain this deponent into her service upon condition that this deponent would execute a business for her and would swear be secret in the same, and that she would raise this deponent fortunes and give him a house and two acres of land if this deponent would discharge a pistol at the arlate Mr Grime her husband, then this deponent asking her how he should bring it to pass but that he should be taken in the manner she the said Mrs Grime then answered that if there came a poor man begging this deponent might discharge the pistol against the said Mr Grime and then let it fall by the poor man and clap hold of him and say oh thou roguish villain thou has killed my master and then told this deponent she would fetch him to a pistol at Norwich and further he saith that at the same time the said Mrs Grime told this deponent that if this deponent would not so make away the said Mr Grime with a pistol wished this deponent to take some [mimosa] and poison him by giving it him in his drink… saying he saith the said Mrs Grime swore very deeply this is this deponent did reveal that she then had told him she would have this deponent’s throat cut.
