She went to William Winke house of St Saviour parish alehousekeeper the last night about eight o'clock at night to see for her husband and finding him there in a short time she with her husband were about going away there did arise a quarrel between some that were there at Winke's house a-drinking and tippling and they fell a-fighting with one Joseph Meeke whom they did beat in a most grievous manner, Meeke at the same time crying out murder, there being several men upon Meeke besides one gentleman that did with the great end of his whip strike Joseph Meeke on the head several times, and she further saith that she do not know any of the men that did so beat Meeke but the said housekeeper William Winke who did with the rest beat Meeke in a most grievous manner that he did bleed at the nose and mouth very much.
She went to William Winke's house of St Saviour parish alehousekeeper to see for her husband being the 28th of December last past about twelve a clock at night. And there found [men?] that were at Winke's house playing at cards and drinking and the informant said to the persons that were there at play (and drinking), Sirs, it is a brave trade that you should be here at play and tippling at past twelve a clock of a Saturday night. And she further saith that the last night her husband Joseph Meeke was brought home to her by two men from Winke's in [a] sad condition being bruised and beaten in a most grievous and inhuman manner, as also one of his ears being almost torn off and is dangerously bruised inwardly as he complains, and she further saith that after her husband was so brought home she went the last night to the said Winke's and demanded of Winke's wherefore they had so abused her husband (there being several playing at cards), William Winke replied and said, God damn you for a whore, get ye out of my house or else I will knife you out.
