Sworn and examined deposeth and saith that he at sundry times before and since the first day of June last past and especially this day did repair unto the custom house of this Port of Chester and requested the officers and deputies thereof and especially Edward Pointon servant to Mr William Singleton his Majesty’s Customer within the same Port being by him substituted and authorised for the execution of such things as belong to the office of a Customer within the said Port, to make and deliver unto the said deponent a true certificate to be directed to the Customer of Beaumaris thereby testifying an entry of 53 tonnes of wines and one tonne of prunes made in the said custom house by Mr William Gamull and Mr William Aldersey Alderman or their factors, and certifying likewise the… discharge of the customs thereupon due and the landing thereof within the said Port, to the end a Port bond of £40 Wherein this deponent stood bounden to the Customer of Beaumaris for the bringing of a true certificate thereof unto him might not be forfeited, of which his request and demand he was still denied, and the said Edward Pointon did this day answer the said deponent that he Could not nor would not make any such certificate and more saith not.
