Saith that upon Saturday last this examinate and his wife came to this City purposing to go over into Ireland, and laid that night at Chatterton’s the piper and that day did wander up and down the City with a soldier of Worcester, and about 11 of the clock went with him and passed through the iron market, and there was taken by the former deponent and searched by one of the officers for picking a purse from the said William Erbie, and the said Richard Carrington charging this examinate with the said purse and money, this examinate by the persuasion of the soldier that was with him went with the said Erbie and Carrington to drink a cup of beer, and they demanding satisfaction of this examinate for the said purse and money, this examinate did wish them to go along with him to his wife at Chatterton’s the purpose if she had any silver this examinate would give it them rather than they should hinder this examinate being a stranger and when they came thither did offer them a piece of 11s which he took out of his wife’s purse to let him go and to trouble no further which they refused, and saith and confesseth that 12 years ago or thereabouts this examinate was committed to the Northgate upon suspicion of felony, and more saith not.
