The deponents say that on the fifth instant they were at John Tayler's house in St Swithin's parish in the afternoon of the same day, where was one John Rands junior of St Gregory's parish, Matthew Budafant of the same, and Joseph Morley of the same parish drinking with others, and there arising a discourse about the election for Parliament men, the foresaid persons asked the deponent James Daglis who he was for, and the deponent made answer to John Rands that he was for the old members, upon which, in the hearing of the deponents, John Rands replied and said, then you are for tackers, and all tackers are rogues, especially Blowfield and Palgrave. And John Rands took a tankard of beer in his hand and went down his knees and drank damnation to all tackers, especially to Blowfield and Palgrave, members for the said city. And the deponent James Daglis further saith that Matthew Budafant and Joseph Morley took the tankard in their hands and drank Mr Blofeild and Palgrave especially and to all tackers as Rands did. And the deponent James Daglis further saith that because they would not drink the foresaid health as they called it that was damnation to all tackers, especially Blowfeild and Palgrave, John Rands in particular with Budafant and Morley fell on James Daglis and beat him and wounded him, drew blood on him and knockt one of his teeth out and tore his clothes apieces, and abused him in a grievous manner so that he was forct to make his escape, for they threatened to knock him the said deponent on the head.
