They being watchmen appointed by the constables of Mancroft ward and having received their charge from the said constables to see their Majesties' peace kept, and going their rounds in the ward on Saturday night last about twelve a clock at night or somewhat past, they met with about eight men who went to Edward Rosse's house of the same ward alehousekeeper and would have forced in there for a drink but the informants with the rest of the watch would not suffer them to have any drink there. And Thomas Tuly of St John of Sepulchre junior, John Tillett of St Stephen's, worsted weaver and John Dickes of St Peter Parmentergate parish in the said city were of the same company of eight persons which did assault watchmen at one Richard Howton's house, alehousekeeper, because the watch would not suffer them to have a drink at that time of night. And did likewise threaten the watchmen and swore God damn them, that if they had but staves they would drive them out of the ward, and so took up stones and threw at them saying, God damn them if they the said watch did follow them, that they would with their knives rip their guts up.
