The humble petition of the Ministers and Elders of the Classes of Warrington. Showeth that the multitude of alehouses, ales, and merrynights are occasions of drunkenness, robberies, and other sins, as also of great dearth of barley the ordinary bread corn of poor people, and that your worships issued forth warrants for the putting down, and suppressing of many alehouses which notwithstanding have taken no effect, but the number of alehouses continue and increase to the dishonour of God, and contempt of your authority and grief of us the minister and Elders of the Classes of Warrington and the associated parishes… We humbly pray that your worships would use your authority in suppressing those of those alehouses which by credible information you may understand to be superfluous, as also ales, merrynights, bear baitings, and other disorders and to cause the Constables to execute their office and we shall daily pray.
