Extent:200 x 140 mm
Collation: Twelves. Catchwords: ff. 11v; 23v; 35v; 47v; 59v; 71v; 83v; 95v; 107v; 119v; 131v.
Layout:Pricking: none visible. Writing space of 165 x 110 mm. Single columns with 31-36 lines. Frame ruled in drypoint.
Writing: One scribe writing in brown and black ink in an Anglicana script. Characteristics: reversed circular e; 8-shaped g; long s in initial position; v-shaped r in final position; long r in medial position; B-shaped w; double compartment a. Body height 2 mm.
Decoration: Initials tinted red; two-line Lombardic red initials; red paraphs.
Binding: Not medieval - seventeenth century. Size: 210 x 150 mm. Cover of brown tan leather mitred and pasted over pasteboard with blind tooled double lines around edge and foliate border on left side and foliate design on spine with 'CHRONICLE OF BRITAIN TO THE 14 YEAR OF KG EDWARD THE 3D. Five raised bands on the spine.
Foliation:ff. vii (modern paper flyleaves) + 1-131 + vi (modern paper flyleaves). Foliated in modern pencil on every fifth leaf.
Additions:
Condition:Ff. 95-100 look as though they have been gnawed by mice. There are wormholes at beginning and end.

Provenance:An erased coat of arms on f. 1r and erased notes on ff. 10r, 10v, and 11r recording the birth of the children of John Shirley (1535-1570) of Staunton Harold and Rakedale in Leicestershire (Matheson 1998; Harris 1983). F. 30v '' (?Badoat) in drypoint, sixteenth century. F. 101v, 'Thomas'; 'th'; 'Iohn' (twice) all in same fifteenth/sixteenth-century hand.
