Mercurius politicus, Number 396, 24th-31st December 1657 E.747[19]

bound to the East, departed with the Reserve
their Convoy.
From Hamburgh, December 15.
We have but little remarkable news here at
this present, except that Major General Schack,
Commander of this place, at his instant request
hath had a satisfactory answer from this Magistrate,
touching his dismission and discharge, but not expecting
the same, gave us the slip secretly on
thursday last, taking his way from hence to Lubeck,
and from thence toward Coppunhaguen. The Foot
Soldiers of the Earl of Waldeck, are now arived
in the Dukedom of Bremen, where they have
taken their quarters till further order. The promised
Forces of the Neather Saxonian Circuit,
for the reducing of the Fortress of Bremerworden,
seem to be contremanded again, by reason that
the Envoye, who was dispatched some weeks ago
from the States of the said Circuit to the King of
Denmark, is returned again to Luneburgh, with
this answer and resolution, that he desired not to
have any such assault from the said States, but was
ready to come to a friendly peace. Whereupon
the most part of the said States now assembled
that Luneburgh, are declined to desist from
the said reducing of Bremerworden, and to perswade
the King of Swethland, to an amicable composition
and agreement, but it is more probable,
that the said King will give order for the reducing
of the said Fortresse with his own forces. Major
