Mercurius politicus, Number 554, 10th-17th February 1659 E.761[15]

That one Ralph Suckley Esq; and James Nutley Esq; had been
elected, and were by one Indenture retorned to serve for the
Borough aforesaid. That this House haveing declared
that but one Burgess ought to be retorned to serve for the
said Borough; and that the aforesaid retorn and Election of
two Burgesses to serve for the said Borough, was a void
Election and Retorn. It was the opinion of the said Committee
that a new Writ be issued for the Election of one Burgesse
to serve for the said Borough.
Resolved, That the House doth agree with the Committee
of Elections and Priviledges, That a new Writ be issued for
the Election of one Burgess to serve for the Borough of Higham
Ferrers in the County of Northampton, and that Mr.
Speaker do send his Warrant to the Clerk of the Commonwealth
in Chancery for the issuing of a new Writ for the Election
of one Burgesse to serve for the said Borough of Higham
Ferrers accordingly.
The House according to the Order made yesterday proceeded
to take into consideration a prævious Vote upon the
matter of the debate of the House before the commitment
of the Bill twice read, Entituled An Act of Recognition of his
Highness Right and Title to be Protector and Chief Magistrate
of the Commonwealth of England, Scotland and Ireland,
And the Dominions And Territories thereunto belonging.
Resolved, That this Debate be adjourned till tomorrow
morning at eight of the Clock, and that nothing else do then
intervene.
Saturday Feb. 12.
The House being informed, that Mr. Edmond Jones Atturney
general of Southwales, who was returned to serve as a
Member of this present Parliament, had during the late unnaturall
Warr been in Arms against the Parliament, and had
Compounded for his Delinquency. Mr. Jones stood up, and
gave his Answer to the House concerning the said information,
and then withdrew.
Resolved, &c. That Mr. Edmond Jones, who is returned
to serve as a Member of this present Parliament for the County
