Mercurius politicus, Number 348, 5th-12th February 1657 E.195[11]

Ordered, That on this Day sevennight the House be resolved into
a grand Committee upon the Bil for Uniting Ireland into one comonwealth
with England.
The House according to former Order was this Day resolved into a
Grand Committee of the whole House, upon the business of raising
the Four hundred thousand pounds to carry on the Spanish War, and
appointed to fit again upon the same business tomorrow morning.
Friday, February 6.
After receiving a Report of Amendments to the Bill for maintenance
of Ministers in the Town of Northampton, and severall days appointed
for other Bills and Reports, the House again fate in a grand Committee,
according to the Order yesterday, and appointed the same Committee
to sit again to morrow.
Saturday, February 7.
A Bill for Naturalization of severall persons, was this Day read.
Amendments reported to the Bill for Regulating Wigstons Hospitall
in Leicester, were read and agreed, and the Bill Ordered to be ingrost.
The House resolved into a Grand Committee of the whole House,
upon the business of raising the Four hundred thousand pound for carrying
on the Spanish War; and upon the Report made unto the
House by that Committee, it was Resolved, That towards the raising
of the said Four hundred thousand pounds, there be a Monthly Tax
of 60000l. Per Mensem, to commence from the 25. of March, to
the 24. of June next.
The House adjourned till Monday.
Thursday, February 5.
The Witnesses concerning the Treasonous Design of Sundercomb
to take away the Life of his Highness the Lord Protector, were
heard before the Grand Jury in the Court-house at Westminster, and
the Evidences were so full and clear against him, that they found the
Bill, Nemine contradicents; and on Monday the 9. instant he is to be
brought to his Tryall at the Upper-Bench Barr in Westminster-Hall
Another from the Hague 2 Feb.
The Titular Duke of York hath been last week at Rotterdam,
at the French Arms in the afternoon he went in a ship
to Gorcum. At that time the young Prince was Christned.
The Duke is going back to his brother. The Holland Ambassador
are still at Elbing. Some polnish Troops are fallen
