all of divers witches, both men and women, that Country being
much troubled, with that sort of people, even of people of
quality, yea and of Churchmen. The Protestant Cantons are
not yet agreed with the French Ambassadors about the Alliance.
The Deputies of the Cantons have had order not to offend
the house of Austria in the business of Alsatia, for which
there hath been a great difference concerning the absolute
yeelding thereof, and also about the nominating of the Officers
and the payment of very considerable sums. Many conferences
have been held about those points, but nothing was yet
decided.
A new project of she Instrument of Alliance, without mention
of the reversall Letters offered upon some Articles, hath been
delivered to the said Ambassador who is to consider the same
as also the several Magistrate of each Canton, and of the Allies
upon the propounded exceptions, their principall interest
being to keep good correspondence withall their neighbours
keep and seek peace within themselves, and serve France punctually,
as their Ancestors have done, for the advantage they
can get thereby. The Arbitrators Cantons arc met at Olten
to decide the grievances of the interested partyes. The new
Instrument of peace shall be published every where, and thereupon
many good reglements will be dressed about the policy.
