Online Froissart

Earl of Cornwall

In the list of noblemen which according to Froissart sailed with King Edward III to Normandy in 1346, features an unnamed earl of Cornwall (‘conte de Cornuaille’). The last earl of Cornwall was John of Eltham, who died in 1336. By 1346 Cornwall had become a duchy and the title of duke was held by Edward, the Black Prince, but it seems unlikely that Froissart was referring to him by this title, so the identification remains unclear.
