Sir John Chandos (? - 1370), soldier and founding knight of the Order of the Garter; son of Sir Edward Chandos and Isabel Twyford. He was a close associate of Edward the Black Prince from as early as 1339. Chandos is a major figure in the pages of Froissart's Chronicles; his death is recounted with much pathos.

repassa la mer a Bouloingne. Si oy dire sur son chemin que le roy de
France, le duc de Normandie, le duc d’Angou et messire Phelippe son maisné frere et le grant conseil de France devoient estre a Amiens. Si tira celle part et les trouva la nouvellement venuz et il leur
recorda la greigneur partie de ses voiages. Quant il eut la esté une espace, il dist qu’il
vouloit aler veoir le prince de Galles, si lui pria le roy de France que a son
retour il ne preist autre voiage fors que parmy France. Le roy de
Chipre lui eut en couvent puis chevauça devers Beauvais et passa
Saine a Pontoise et fist tant par ses journees qu’il vint a Poitiers. A ce dont estoit le prince et la princesse en Angoulesme et la devoit avoir prochainement une grant feste de XL chevaliers et de XL escuiers at tendans, de dedens que madame la princesse devoit bouter hors a sa relevee car elle estre acouchiee d’un beau filz qui fu appellé Edou art comme son pere.
