Sir John Chandos (? - 1370), soldier and founding knight of the Order of the Garter; son of Sir Edward Chandos and Isabel Twyford. He was a close associate of Edward the Black Prince from as early as 1339. Chandos is a major figure in the pages of Froissart's Chronicles; his death is recounted with much pathos.
Jean III de Grailly (c. 1343 - 1377), Captal de Buch, son of Jean II de Grailly and Blanche de Foix. Jean held the important lordship of Buch as well as those of Castillon, Bénauges and other English strongholds in the duchy of Aquitaine. He was a founder member of the Order of the Garter and a famous military leader of the Hundred Years’ War whom Froissart held in great esteem, and often described as the ideal chivalric knight. He had married Rose d’Albret, and had a son and heir, Archambaud de Grailly, by her. There is no mention of a brother in any of the sources consulted by the project.

vouloit que le prince son filz ou nom de Dieu et de saint George
empreist le roy Pietre son cousin a remettre en son heritage dont on l’avoit
frauduleusement boute hors. Et faisoient ces lettres du roy d’Engleterre mention que moult il estoit tenu par certaines aliances faites de jadis obligies et
encouvenancies entre lui et le roy de Castille son cousin de lui aidier ou cas quelle besoing touchoit et que priéz et requiz en seroit. Et commandoit a tous ses feaulx
et prioit a ses amis que le prince de Galles son filz feust aidies, confortéz et
conseilliés en toutes ces besoingnes comme il seroit d’eulx se il y estoit present. Et dont
tous les barons d’Acquitaine distrent : "Nous obeirons au commandement
du roy nostre sire mais nous voulons savoir qui paiera noz gaiges car on ne
met mie gens hors de leurs hostelz ainsi pour aler guer roier en estrange paÿs." Lors
dist le prince : "Sire roy, vous oéz que noz gens dient. A vous
en est de respondre qui les vouléz ensommer." Le roy respondy : "Mon chier cousin, si avant que mon or, mon argent et tout mon tresor que j’ay amené pardeça, qui n’est pas si grant de XXX fois comme cil de pardela,
est se pourra estendre, je le vueil donner a voz gens." Le prince dist : "Vous dittes bien. Et du seurplus j’en feray ma debte vers
eulx et
delivrance et vous presteray ce qu’il vous besoingnera jusques a ce temps que nous

Pietre, "si me feréz grant grace et courtoise." En ce parlement regarderent aucuns sages le conte d’Ar mignac, messire Jehan Chandos,
le sire de Pumiers, le Captal de Beus et autres que le prince de Galles ne pouoit nullement faire ce voiage sans l’acort et confort du roy Charles de Navarre ne ilz ne pouoient entrer ne aler en Espaigne
fors par son paÿs et les destrois de Roncevaux. Duquel passage ilz
n’estoient mie bien asseurs de l’avoir car le dit roy de Navarre et le le roy
Henry avoient de nouvel faites grans aliances ensemble. Et la fu lon guement
parlementé comment on s’en pourroit chevir. Si fu dit que un parle ment se feroit en la
cité de Baionne de toutes ces parties. Et la en dedens envoi eroit le prince souffisans hommes et traitteurs pardevers le roy de Navarre qui lui
prieroient ou nom du prince qu’il voulsist estre a ce parlement en la cité de Baionne. Ce conseil fu tenu et arresté et suy ce se party le dit parlement. Et eurent en couvent chascun d’estre a Ba ionne au jour qui miz et ordonnéz
y fu. Si furent envoiéz messire Jehan Chandos et messire Thomas Felleton lesquelx firent tant devers le roy de Navarre a Pam pelune que il leur seella a estre a ce parlement. Et sur ce, ilz retournerent devers le prince a qui ilz recorderent ces nouvelles.
