1 The grid reference is to the graveyard to the south of Otterbourne Farm, where the old chapel of St Matthew was situated, before it was replaced by a new church of St Matthew on a different site in 1840. The Victoria History of the Counties of England: Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, ed. H.Arthur Doubleday et al., 5 vols & index vol. (London, 1900-14) vol 3 p.443 2 The bishop collated to this church, as in 1284 and 1296 (RegPont 16, 93), and the individual rector presented to the vicarage (RegPont 95, 110, 144). But in 1302 the bishop appropriated the church (at the death or resignation of the rector) to his newly-established Winchester college of St Elizabeth of Hungary: RegPont 128, 136.
