Benefice of WESTBURY ON TRYM

(WO.GL.BR.23) variants

This figure is the total assessed value of the benefice. Note that for a cathedral church a zero figure is given because its assessed value is derived from a number of holdings which are listed elsewhere in the taxatio text.

     Assessment for tax:

     Notes:
1 For the bishop's collegiate church of Westbury on Trym see VCHGloucs2 106-8, HainesAdmin 28. The bishop collated to all the prebends. In 1291 he granted the deanship to John of Monmouth for six months (RegGGiff 349), and for later collations to prebends see RegGeyn 133, RegReyn 153, RegCobham 236, 240, 242, 246-7. Also, for the churches which Bishop Giffard made prebendal, or attempted to make prebendal, in this college see WO.WO.WO.22, WO.WO.PR.33 and RegGGiff 362. (At least four of the six prebends were clearly held in plurality, since they did not exceed the threshold for the moiety of 1294 of more than ten marks but were not excluded from that tax: see TWOM 240.)
