Choir stalls at Tideswell

Marmaduke Huby is today best remembered for his construction of a magnificent tower outside the north transept of the church. This is now known as ‘Huby’s tower’, and the remains still loom over the Fountains site.

Huby also made a remarkable contribution to the interior décor of the abbey church. He was responsible for providing new choir stalls and a new pulpitum screen, with an organ overhead. He added a series of processional markers in the nave of the church, to indicate where the community should make the various stations.(20)
