Dover 23 June, 1649.
Sir,
There passed this way yesterday two ships, which say they are going to a new
Plantation, in them were some which had formerly served the late King in his
warres, with some others, which England is like to have little losse of.
All is very quiet here both by sea and Land, only some desperate Theeving
Rogues which lye about Oftend, and are to too swift for any vessel that is burdened,
do sometimes meet with little prize but to prevent them for the future there be
some small men of War of ours come to guard these coasts.
Satturday.
ORdered by the House that all officers and souldiers whose accounts are audited
by the Committee of the Army, or any other Committee or Commissioners
authorized for the same, shall have leave to double their arrears thus stated,
for purchasing of Deans and Chapters lands at the usual rates as others; and
all such as pay in their money presently, shall have interest after the rate of 8.l.
per cent, till the 20. of July next.
Ordered, that the stipend due to the Earl of Denbeigh for forraign arrears,
and his other arrears, be referred to the Committee of the Revenue.
Ordered, that the losses of Col. Hen. Martin and his arrears, be referred to a
Committee to consider of a way to recompence him.
The Resolutions at a Councel of war at Whitehall, for an Establishment
of the Army.
UPon consideration of the several allowances for billet money, and additional
pay, requisite to be made to the several Regiments of Horse and Foot, and
to all other Foot within the present Establishment. In pursuance of the late
Act of Parliament for that purpose, resolved as followeth,
That for Sir Hardness Waller, Sir William Constables, Col. Ingoldesbie's,
Col. Barksteads, Col. Coxes, Col. Brights, and Colonel Fairfaxes Regiments
being disposed into Garrisons, or Quarters for the present, but to be drawn
out upon occasion for the field, there be allowed for billet money and additional
pay, 3,d. per diem to each private Souldier, and non Commissioned Officers, of
which allowance, 2.d. per diem to be allowed from the seventh of May, 1649.
and the other 1.d. per diem from the fourth of June, instant.
