Mercurius aulicus for King Charls, [1], 14th-21st August 1649 E.571[4]

Mercurius Aulicus.
(For King Charls II.)
Communicating Intelligence from all
parts, touching all Affairs, Designes, Humours
and Conditions throughout the Kingdom.
Especially from Westminster and the Head Quarters.
From Tuesday August the 14. to Tuesday August 21. 1649.
The Presbyter peeps forth his Head,
The Leveller pricks up's earl,
This strikes the Journy-Juncto dead
with Jealouses and feares.
The Priests they sound their Pulpit Drums,
The Scots they say advance :
Once more the cause and Covenant comes
To shew's a Northern Dance.
The zealous brethren and the Kirk,
Say Charles shall have his Crown:
For with their Covenant they can Jerk
The Independent down.
But all this while doth Cromwel mourn
Ana's in a pitsous pickle,
Because he can't with's trick adjourn,
The Supream Conventicle.
Name me impune lacssit.
BY your leave Journey-men of the Juncto, for what if I shall scarce appear,
neverthelesse I hope you that have so long pretended for a general
Liberty, wil give my conscience Liberty to speak home to your Consciences
without danger of being snapt in your new Treason-Trap, or if I must
