and being informed that M. Prynne had given Answer to him that was sent
unto him, That he being prisoner upon the seizing by Sir Hardr[nl]esse Waller
and Colonel Pride, he should not obey the ot[nl]her, [unr] at [unr]. This
occasioned the taking notice of the Armies Answer [unr] the desire of the O[unr]mons
concerning their restraining and sechiding such and such Members,
which they approved, and resolved a further progresses in the businesse.
The Ialk. A Petition was presented by the Trustees for Bishop. Lands,
in which somwhat was desired under the Great Seal, which was granted [nl]
and the Solicitor was Ordered to draw up a Partent, in full consider[nl]ation of
all Ordinances formerly granted. Sir John Panlets busines ordered for
Monday. Also, that the Ordinance for speedy payment of the second payment
due from Delinquent, within 20 days after publication, be Reported.
This day Serjant Bradshaw was made Lord President of the Councel for
trial of the King, by the Commissioners appointed for that businesse, which
he accepted.
The 13th.
The businesse of the Navy was further insisted upon, and ships ordered to
be sent out into the German Ocean: Prince Report being abroad with 12
ships. It was also ordered that certain conseb with the Lord A drairal about
this matter. The Warwick Friggot ordered to go in this Expedition. That
the Mariners come into Capt. Moltons ship, have two months pay: added
several more Members to the Committee of the Navy.
The agreement or Representative being perfect, and ingrossed, it was this
day to have been subscribed, but that was not done in part, or in whole.
The Commissioners for try all of the King, fare this day, and agreed that he be try'd
in west minister Hall: The Kings, Bench, and Chan[nl]cery Courts, are to be put into one
for that end.
There was this day a Common councell, who were consider of the Petition mentioned
the last work, to be sent to the House of Common for justice against delinquents.
The Lord Major did urge first the reading the Government, then prest the Oath which
same from the Commons amended, which was taken, yet when upon the Question was to be
put, after one Irad declared his dislike, it would not be put; whereupon this Commons
there assembled by themselves, did carry on the Petition, and past it, with an Orders to
have it carried to the House Munday; with a narrative of the proceedings.
The 24.
Being Saboth day, the Pulpits rang against the Army and their proceeding, principally
that at Mercers Chappell, where Doctor Burgesse preached.
A Manifesto published at Portingale, whereby the just Title of the present
King, unto that Kingdome is fully asserted, and Romes partiality to, or Awe
of Spain, as fully appesreth.
Almighty God being pleased to restore the Monarchy of Portingale to the natural and
lawful Kings thereof, th' Authors of this most generous Exploye made choice of the
City of Lisborue (Metropolitan of this Kingdom) wherein they proclaim; for their rightfull
Monarch, the most high an mighty Prince D: John the Fourth of that Name, till
than Duck of Braganca: The which was done with all necessary and fitting Solemnity;
in the beginning of December in the year 1640; and confirmed by 3 Estates of the Kingdom
