Beginning Munday, July 16.
This day severall Gentlemen of the Counties of South-Wales,
presented a Petition to the Honourable House of Parliament,
in the Names of themselves and many thousands of the Inhabitants
of the aforesaid Counties, to this effect, viz. That inregard
Col. Horton (a valiant and faithfull Gentleman, who
commanded the Forces appointed by the Parl. for the securing
of those parts) was commanded out for the service of Ireland,
that they would be pleased to take speedy care, that they may not be left destitute
of a Commander in chiefe for those parts; there being many Malignant Spirits,
who threaten much danger to the Well-affected: and that if the House were so
pleased, to admit of Col. Martin (one of their Members, in whose fidelity they
repose much confidence) to be the Gentleman on whom the said Command may
be setled. The House having read the Petition, after a short debate thereupon,
Referred the whole businesse to the Lord Gen. And desired his Excellency to take
such care for the setling of those Counties, as his Lordship shall thinke fit.
About 7 this morning the Committee appointed for the sale of the Crowne
Lands met, and made their Reports ready to present to the House; they added
severall provisoes, and made some amendments, which being taken into consideration,
after they had a while debated the businesse, they past the Act, and ordered it
should be Printed.
