Mercurius Politicus.
Comprising the summe of all Intelligence,
with the Affairs and Designs
now on foot in the three Nations of
England, Ireland, and Scotland.
In defence of the Common-wealth, and
for Information of the People.

From Thursday February 20. to Thursday Febr. 27. 1651.
SINCE it is apparent, there can be
no mean of reconciliation betwixt
this Republick, and the late Family,
it is to be supposed by all, that if
ever they return into possession, it
must be by Conquest, or the Power
of the Sword.
If so, then the new Tyrant will
be as absolute as was William the Conqueror, and we all
must be in the same slavish condition, as our Fore fathers
were, under the tyranny of that Norman Bastard. That
Government which heretofore was call'd Monarchy will then
be exactly tyrannical; for, as many other mischiefs, so certainly
a Tyrant follows a Conqust.
And therefore we read in our Chronicles, that when Henry
the son of Maud the Empress, contended for the Crown
