How often hath it been said, that wee
intend not to cast dirt in the Faces of
such as are Ministers indeed ! The intent
is not to visifie the Order, but to
point out those who say they are Ministers
of Christ, but are not; being only
Ministers of the Scotish Interest, State-Ministers,
or Residents and Agents in
the behalf of the King of Scotland, who lie at Lurch here
to quarrel, insinuate, incense, and dispute the Power in being;
And therefore this being their Aim, wee must needs quarrel
with those too, who though they be never so faithfull to the
Power, shall yet so farr comply with them upon any Pretence
whatsoever, as to give ear unto such Disputes; for, I
say once again, the very admitting of such Disputes, Scruples,
and Pretences is the highest weakning of any Power in mens
opinions that can be, because every supreme Power in possession
to be held unquestionable, as to matter of Title;
